Nature Loves Courage is an electro-funk-rock band bending entire genres to their will.
The name is inspired by a quote from psychedelic philosopher Terence McKenna and embodies their belief that the most important thing humans can do is create art in the face of increasing adversity.
NLC was born in 2020 among three long-time friends and musical partners – McKenna Rowe (vocals, arrangements, keys), Jake Bergman (bass) and Garrett Smith (drums). When the pandemic hit, NLC collaborated remotely on their “post punk electro-funk-rock” sound in an explosion of songwriting during quarantine. Guitarist Joe De Sa joined the band in 2021. Since then, NLC has released 20 singles, with a new 5-song EP coming out early 2025.
NLC has drawn comparisons to Garbage, Talking Geads, Goldfrapp, Annie Lennox, Róisín Murphy and St Vincent. They’re building a steady following at their dynamic live shows at various venues around Los Angeles. Follow NLC on your streaming platform of choice to find out about upcoming new releases and live shows.
“Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles.”
