Nature Loves Courage is an retro-funk-tronic band bending entire genres to their will.

Their name is inspired by a quote from psychedelic philosopher Terence McKenna, and embodies their belief that the most important thing humans can do is create art in the face of increasing adversity.

“Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles.”

Terence McKenna

NLC was born in 2020 among three long-time friends and musical partners – McKenna Rowe (vocals, music/lyrics, keys), Jake Bergman (bass) and Garrett Smith (drums). Guitarist Joe De Sa joined the band in 2021. Rowe spent years composing music for TV, commercials, theatre projects and DJ gigs. Being in a band again brings the joy that comes with hearing her compositions brought to life by live players.

NLC has drawn comparison to other groundbreaking, female-fronted bands, such as: Blondie, Goldfrapp, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Their self-described “retro-funk-tronic” sound fuses electronic/synth elements with funk rhythm section and ethereal guitar, topped with a frontwoman that commands attention and provokes thought about our high-tech age.
